Parents,
The programs that are listed on this website, www.specialneedsEBNJ.com, reflect lots of effort, time and enthusiasm provided by our parent support group, the Daisy Association, the Township's Division of Recreation, our staff and in large part by the parents of the children we serve.
All the programs, have been created in an attempt to be responsive to your requests to address your child's needs. As part of the Township of East Brunswick, while our budget is adequate, it in no way provides enough funding to be the sole financial support for programs we offer. We charge fees that are in most cases, a mere fraction of the cost for each child to participate. The parents association is generous in funding the major cost of many programs.
We try new programs, see how they are received and then either continue them or cancel them if they are not as effective as we would hope. Please keep in mind that we are a municipal recreation program that seeks to provide responsive, appropriate, programs for people with special needs. The end result is that everything that we offer, beyond the budget that the Township provides, is due to the generosity and support of people who donate money to the Daisy Association. Consequently, adding new programs or adding new features to our existing programs, new trips, and specialized staff to address the needs of children, is slow in coming. We're getting there.
At the core of our programs is a staff that is enthusiastic, responsive and skilled. They all love children, have great legs (they're fast on their feet) and can't wait for the next program session. We are fortunate in having minimal staff turnover. They remain with us until changes in their lives such as school or marriage force them to leave. They are consistently, the hardest working, most responsive group of individuals. They are simply, the best.
